RYAN

Ryan Cochrane - CPO(c), BKin(AT)

In 2002, I stumbled upon the Prosthetic and Orthotic profession while attending Mount Royal College in Calgary, AB. It was during that year that I took a tour of Colman Prosthetics & Orthotics and my interest was piqued. At the time, I was planning to become an Athletic Therapist so completed my Bachelor of Kinesiology at U of C in 2004. I then enrolled at Foothills College of Massage Therapy with the hope that this would help me find a job in Athletic Therapy. I completed a 2200-hour Diploma in Massage Therapy in 2005. During my time in Calgary, I had the opportunity to work with the U of C Football Team, Volleyball Team, Dinos Swim Club, Calgary Colts and the Women’s National Hockey Team. This training has helped me learn the benefits of working in a team atmosphere and helped to develop my assessment skills. It has also really helped me to understand the limits of orthotic care and when people may benefit from other treatments like physical therapy, massage therapy, chiropractic care, etc.

After completing my Massage Therapy, I moved back to the Motherland (AKA Saskatchewan) with my future wife so she could complete her schooling. While in Saskatoon I worked as an Exercise Therapist and Massage Therapist at Armstrong’s Rehab Clinic. It was during this time that my thoughts returned to Prosthetics and I decided that I would apply to the programs at both British Columbia Institute of Technology and George Brown College. In 2006, I began my Prosthetic and Orthotic journey at BCIT, and I knew that this was where I was meant to be.

kojI

Koji Duncan - CPO(c), MSc(RS)

Koji grew up just outside of Lundbreck, Alberta. Throughout his childhood and teenage years he was very active in various sports including; mountain biking, volleyball, horseback riding, competitive swimming, and freestyle skiing. After graduating from high school he attended university with the hopes of becoming a physiotherapist. Shortly into the program, he suffered a dirt biking accident, this resulted in severely injuring his right knee. Four reconstructive surgeries and a custom knee brace later, his interest in orthotics and prosthetics was born. He was fascinated by the entire clinical and fabrication process; he knew this career would allow him to help people improve their mobility and quality of life, while working with his hands to create different devices. After deciding to pursue this new career path, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2009 from the University of Lethbridge. During this time, he volunteered at a prosthetic and orthotic clinic gaining experience working directly with patients and manufacturing of O&P devices. In 2012 he was accepted into the O&P program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) where he graduated with honors in 2014. He completed his Masters of Science in 2015 and went on to officially become a Certified Orthotist in 2017 and is currently completing the necessary requirements to fulfill his goal of becoming a Certified Prosthetist.. When Koji is away from the office you can find him spending time with his Wife and Daughter. They enjoy hiking, camping, pretty much doing anything outdoors.
